The Greece’s National Day is celebrated on March 25th, commemorating the start of the war of Greek Independence in 1821. In 1821, the Greeks rose up against the Ottoman Empire which has occupied Greece for almost 400 years, leading to the war of i independence. Bishop Germanos of Patras raised the Greek flag at the monastery of Agia Lavra, inciting the Peloponnese to rise against the oppressors.
